11 Ways to Experience Disneyland Magic Without a Ticket
The Disneyland 70th anniversary festivities have officially commenced! As a self-proclaimed Disney adult who shamelessly worships Mickey Mouse like some cult leader, I can’t think of anything I’d rather do now than celebrate at the actual parks. Nevertheless, entry tickets are expensive, and while some special discounts are available, I wanted to share other ways you can be a part of the Disneyland 70 magic for free (or mostly free, anyway). So get your notes app ready because here are 11 ways to experience Disneyland magic WITHOUT a ticket:
1. Dine with Your Favorite Characters
Meeting Disney characters for free is technically doable since they occasionally hang out in the Disneyland Hotel lobby, but if you want to be extra sure about getting in some quality time with them, booking a meal at Goofy’s Kitchen or Storyteller’s Cafe is the way to go. A meal at Goofy’s Kitchen is easily my favorite way to feel the “magic” without actually stepping into the park, and the experience is a lot cheaper, too!
*The Grand Californian also offers a Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures meal, but it costs $142 per person, so it’s not much cheaper than paying for a parking ticket. However, I figured I’d mention it anyway.
2. Say Hi to Bing Bong!
You can also meet Bing Bong from Inside Out at the Pixar Place Hotel gift shop, and Joe from Soul can often be seen playing the piano in the lobby. FYI: You don’t need to be a hotel guest to walk around the hotel or book dining/spa reservations, so enjoy the experience!
3. Have an Enchanted Tiki Experience at Trader Sam’s
Trader Sam’s is the best-themed experience you can have at Disneyland without actually being at the parks. It’s such a fun place to grab a beverage. It’s even better than the Enchanted Tiki Room and Tropical Hideaway. Ideally, it’s best to book a reservation in advance, but they will take walk-ups sometimes, so don’t hesitate to drop by just in case.

4. Treat yourself to a grown-up Dole Whip
Unlike what many think, you CAN get a (legit) Dole Whip outside of the parks. You can even get one with rum at Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill!
5. Indulge at Disney’s Wonderful World of Sweets
Craving even more sweets? Plenty of cute Mickey-shaped treats are available at the Wonderful World Sweets shop in Downtown Disney that’ll satisfy your needs or make for a nice gift for your Disney-loving friends.

6. Trade or Collect New Pins
Pin-trading and collecting are some of my favorite Disney hobbies. In fact, it’s become a tradition of mine to collect a new pin every time I travel somewhere, Disney or not. There’s a decent-sized pin booth in Downtown Disney, and you can also arrange to meet up with fellow pin traders to check out their collections.
7. Learn About Disney’s History at the Disneyland Hotel
“Vault” Disney is my favorite era, specifically the ’50s to ’60s, so when I need my magical fix, I like to browse around the Disneyland Hotel, which has all sorts of vintage Disney goodies on display. You can even see an old Autopia car there, among other treasures. Just be aware that there’s also a handful of creepy old Mickey pictures.

8. Enjoy the Cozy Ambience at the Grand Californian
The Grand Californian Hotel lobby is stunning and an ideal resting place for tired, exhausted visitors. There’s nothing like chilling in front of the fireplace while listening to Disney music played on the piano. I recommend dining al fresco at the Craftsman’s Grill to improve your G.C.H. experience. The vibe-y “sophisticated” Disney experience will make you feel like you’re Hallie Parker living her best life on her Napa Valley terrace.
9. Munch On a Churro
Churros are a key part of the Disney park experience for many, and while the Downtown Disney ones may not be exactly the same as the ones in the parks, they’re good enough to satisfy your cravings. Sometimes, it’s just nice to enjoy a churro on a bench by the park gates where you can listen to the comforting Esplanade music.

10. Window Shop at World of Disney
Browsing the World of Disney is like going to the Disney Store at your local mall in the ’90s on steroids. It has almost all of the merch you’ll find in the parks, including the Disneyland 70 items, and it’s so huge that you can easily spend an hour there. If you’re a home decor addict like yours truly, you’ll also enjoy the Disney Home store, which is a bit smaller and easier to navigate.
Star Wars Trading Post is also in Downtown Disney and will give you a taste of what you can find in Galaxy’s Edge.
11. Watch the Disneyland Fireworks
Nothing says “Disney Magic” like the closing fireworks show, and fortunately, you have several viewing options outside the parks. My first recommendation would be to see them on the rooftop of the Pixar Place Hotel (this is open to anyone, not just hotel guests). Another option is to watch them from the Disneyland Esplanade area (the open area between the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure gates). Sure, seeing them without the music on Main Street may not be as perfect, but it is still a beautiful experience.
*Some restaurants surrounding the Disneyland Resort also offer dining with fireworks viewing, so that’s another backup option if you need it.
