What is D23?
D23 stands for Disney, and 1923 is the year that Walt Disney founded the Walt Disney Company, and it’s The Official Disney Fan Club that offers many insider perks and discounts. There’s a free membership option, but the Gold membership pays for itself if you think about all the benefits you get. It makes for an awesome Christmas gift, too! 😉
What Are the Membership Perks?
- An Annual Gift: Upon signup, you’ll receive the annual D23 Gold Member Collector Set, a super nice gift that differs year after year. For example, one year, I received an awesome set commemorating the 50th anniversary of Disney World, which included a vintage lunchbox, a 45 RPM record, a Florida Fab Five pin set, and a fan club pennant. Just goes to show you that the gifts aren’t by any means crappy or lame.
- Exclusive Offers & Discounts: You get discounts on experiences like the Walt Disney Family Museum, the Walt Disney Archives Exhibition, the Walt Disney Hometown Museum in Marceline, MO, and more. Not to mention, there are discounts on select hotels, shops, and restaurants in Downtown Disney and Disney Springs, as well as on Disney Store merchandise.

D23 also recently announced that starting in 2025, it will begin offering three Gold Membership plans to give members even more access. All Gold Memberships will include a membership certificate and card, savings passport, Max and Goofy car magnet, Stitch collectible pin, and a Lorcana trading card featuring Iago from Aladdin.

What’s the D23 Expo?
The D23 Expo is a three-day event at the Anaheim Convention Center (right across the street from Disneyland), and it’s considered the biggest Disney fan event in the world. It occurs every two years, and while you don’t need a D23 membership to attend, you’ll get early access to ticket sales (and yes this event does sell out fast) as a member (with that discount, of course). If you can picture a gigantic convention center with multiple floors full of everything to do with Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Hulu, ABC, Freeform, Disney Junior, etc., that’s the D23 Expo, and it is by far my favorite event ever!
Do I Really Need the Membership?
If you’ve got the budget for it, I personally think it’s worth it, even if you’re a passive fan, and this is coming from someone who is not affiliated or sponsored by the Walt Disney Company at all. All of the perks listed above pay for the membership in my opinion, and it’s so rare to get it for 40% off. It’s also a nice alternative to having an annual park pass if you don’t live in FL or CA, because you can still get some Disneyland and Disney World discounts while you’re on property.
